Couponing FAIL!

Dear Bloggians....I have failed you.

Yesterday I wanted to conduct a little experiment to see if I could use the $1.50 coupon on a tube of $0.84 toothpaste.  Baby took a huge nap so by the time I was able to go it was night time....but lets start at the beginning shall we?!

As I was trying to get the kids to bed I dreamed of double couponing delight at the London Drugs which is beside the Walmart.  I figured I just MUST get there.  I took a few minutes to pin up my double coupons and headed out.  Sure enough....London Drugs was closed.  Go figure.  Oh well, I decided to go to Walmart anyways.

I searched high and low for the $0.84 toothpaste and couldnt find it.  I decided I needed to find the flyer since I had seen the deal advertised on their online flyer.  I began to wander.  Then I remembered that I could get the flyer at the door.  Epic Fail #1.  Do not attempt to search for flyers while you have stuff in your cart.  I started to search near the door not really thinking that I might look like someone attempting to jack a 24 pack of pop for free....so as I neared the door I could hear the shouts of the little man with the blue vest on his scooter following me.  Oops.  I dont think he believed me when I said I was looking for the flyer.  Next I searched for the toothpaste again.  Still couldnt find it.  But did manage to locate $1.87 toothpaste.....which meant toothpaste for $0.37...not too shabby....but not the -$0.66 I was hoping to locate.  Next up....$0.64 deodorant (with coupon).  Found that too.  I should have stopped there.  But did I????  Noooooo.  I just had to keep going....I'm sure the security cameras were following me as I looked slightly crazy stopping every few seconds to review my coupons.  I didn't locate any other amazing deals (other than the ones I blogged about already), but still I managed to leave there with a cart full of crap I don't need spending way more money that what I intended.  Now I spent the money I intended to use for double couponing delight.  What is a girl to do???  I may just have to wait a few days until some funds are replenished and then try again.

The morale of the story?  Don't go to Walmart when you are sick, tired and have no willpower.  At least I have some praline pecans to pacify me in my time of need.  I hope to attempt double couponing at London Drugs shortly.  If I can afford it....Must....not....buy....additional....items!

One more thing!

There was one more extreme deal...ready:

SUPERSTORE

Irish Spring 6 pack of soap - $2.49 (less $2.00 off coupon).  Yup...thats $0.49 for 6 bars of soap...or if you want to do the math its just over $0.08 per bar.  :)  Nice!

So, I am thinking I want to go to Walmart today to check out this $0.84 colgate and to see if I can use the $1.50 off coupon...I sound like a pile, but I am feeling slightly less sorry for myself today so I just might do it.  Will report later on the outcome!  First....DOLLARAMA!

My Flyer Boy Needs an Arse Kicking

Well, here we go again.  I wait...and I wait...and do you think the flyers came?  Noooooooo.  I spent half my night searching deals online when what I really need to find is a place that carries the Kleenex Ultra Grande tissue so I can have something to blow my cherry red chaffed nose with (and get it with my coupon).  This flu is horrible.  So horrible it prevented me from going to the place I love most.  Dollarama.  I was even planning to venture to an out of town Dollarama (ROAD TRIP!!!) but alas...having the hack of a dying 80 year old smoker along with mucus oozing membranes and bulging eyes has beaten those dreams out of me. My chest hurts.  I want my momma.

Nevertheless I forged ahead.  First, I complained to the Flyer Force about the non-existent flyer situation I got goin'on here...then searched what I could off the internet for some good deals.  This is just some...I'm sure there are tons more out there!

Ready...

Deals of the day!

Well, the baby decided not to sleep tonite so I took her to the place where all insomniacs feel free to roam....Walmart Supercentre. I wanted to see what I could druge up in terms of deals, but I didnt get too crazy...I didnt want to tempt fate entirely.

Firstly, they had Chef Boyardee on sale for $1 a can.  Now, I'm sure some of you are just horrified that I eat Hamburger Helper and Chef Boyardee, but let me tell ya...every now and again a can of ABC's and 123's with "meat bulbs" is delish...I kinda want some right now....

Onward and upward though.  Next I found Cars gummies which I had a coupon for.   It wasn't a smokin' deal but a dollar off is a dollar off.

Sunlight Dish Soap was on sale for $1.97, so I was able to get that for $0.97 with my coupon.  As I'm wandering along, I notice the red "Limited Time" pricing signs over by the diapers. I figured I had better investigate.  Sure enough boxes of Pampers Baby-Dry were on sale for (wait for it....wait for it).... $19.97.  SAY WHAAAAAT?!!?!  Plus...you guessed it...I had a coupon.  So I got the diapers for $17.97 (the cost of a pack of regular diapers) and there is 30+ more diapers.  SCORE!

But here is the ultimate deal of the day.  I had a coupon for Pillsbury Crescent rolls.  Those ones that come in the tube and when you make them that dough boy talks to you and giggles..."nothing says loving like crescent rolls in the oven...heeeeee heeeeeee".  Anyways, they were on sale for $1.27....and I had a dollar off coupon.  That made them $0.27.  Yoink.

Oh...wait...there's one more unbelieveable deal.  They had the Sesame Street Keyboard, with this microphone/headphone and stool (ages 2-5) on clearance for $10.  Guess what the Easter Bunny is bringing to my house!

So the little insomniac and I made off with quite the haul tonite.  Feels great to get great deals.  Thursday flyers didnt arrive....I hope to blog tomorrow or the next day about the great deals to be had for weekend shopping!

A Great Day in Coupon Land!

Ok...I will admit it.  It was me that took a few extra coupons for hair dye from the pad of coupons in the store....it was only two or three extra (or five or six), but the point is this.....now I have tons of hair dye coupons and when you have to use two bottles of hair dye, this can add up real quick!

Today's mail was heavy laden with coupon delight and lo and behold....there was coupons for the same hair dye that already had the coupons for that I confiscated from the grocery store.  Do you realize what this means???  DOUBLE COUPON TIME!!!!  You will remember from my previous blog that you can double coupon at London Drugs and I know this particular hair dye goes on sale for $9.99 all the time...and with double coupons that would work out to $2.99 a box!  SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!  I can hardly contain my excitement.

I'm still euphoric from my deals that I got on the weekend such as Nature Valley Granola bars (you know, those real good ones) that were on sale, and I used a dollar off coupon on top of that so I got them for $1.32 a box!  Regularly, these granola bars average close to $4.00 per box!  I felt marginally victorious.  Then...came the meat section!  I had a coupon for $3.00 off the purchase of ground beef with the purchase of Hamburger Helper and sure enough I had a $1.00 off coupon for the Hamburger Helper which was also on sale for $1.99.  The ground beef was $3.22.  So...I got a package of ground beef for $0.22!!!!!!  (and the Hamburger Helper was only $0.99).  I had to call someone to tell them.  I called my mother.  When I told her that I got hamburger for $0.22 she immediately sounded as though a horrible smell had wafted into the room and she said "ohhh.....what's wrong with it???"....dear mother...she just doesn't understand.  I phoned a fellow converted couponer my good friend Natalie to revel in my glory.  She too had a great shopping trip this weekend and picked up quite a few good deals at the Superstore.  Nice!!!

There are loads of savings to be had if you are making sure you purchase your items already on sale and with your coupons on top of the sale price...AND make sure you are checking in the grocery store for coupons.  Just this weekend I picked up coupons for Real Fruit gummies and Gillette deodorant on the coupon stands within the store.

Watch for my newest segment for the weekends (posted by Saturdays for sure) where I will go through the flyers to find the greatest deals for you!  Saves the guess work!  All you need to do is go, find and SAVE!

The final result!

First, I will apologize....I wanted to post this blog last night but my 14 year old son wouldn't get off the computer.  And by 14 year old son, I mean my husband.  Here he sits...every night...Gollum like....gazing all at the computer screen, playing his Age of Empires game online....all you can hear is him clicking non-stop.  I have coined the term "Gamer's Eye" from looking at him when he comes down the stairs...eyes completely blood shot whining about how he lost the treaty match and how his teammates are a bunch of stupid bastards that MADE them lose.  But...lets get to the good stuff.  The unvealing of the cheap to make decorations!

Drum roll Please...........

Now, bear in mind its a bit smooshed and slightly crooked since its on the floor, but I say....NOT TOO SHABBY.  I have never done this before, but if you have a creative eye...this could be a great project to take a stab at.  Cost to make this....under $10.  Can you believe it?!?!?  The wreath was $3.99 (less 25% for my coupon) and all the flowers came from flower bunches (for a buck a bunch) that I just cut with pliers and glued into place with All Tack (which was also on sale at Michaels for $1.99).

Now for wreath #2...

Once again, its sitting on a slight angle...but I just used pretty much the same flowers I used on the other wreath (thereby cutting costs again, but still noting that the flowers only cost a dollar a stem....did I mention they were a dollar a stem???  The butterflies are also from Dollarama and clip on...so you could even remove them and use them again.  Once again, this was less than $10.00 to make.

I found a bunny a friend of mine had given me and voila....

They go from Spring wreaths to Easter wreaths and that didnt cost a thing.  The bunny can be wired on or even just placed on depending on where you hang your wreath.

Now I must go....my tiny break of computer time is over...supper is burning and children are cranky...yeah....when I say children I include the husband in that group as well.  :)
